Zechariah’s Prophecy

Luke 1:67-80

  1. And his father Zechariah was filled with the Holy Spirit and prophesied, saying,
68. "Blessed be the Lord God of Israel, because he has come to help and has redeemed his people.
69. And hath raised up an horn of salvation for us in the house of his servant David; [Note]
70. just as He promised through His holy prophets long ago,
71. that we should be saved from our enemies, and from the hand of all who hate us.
72. He said he would give mercy to our fathers and that he would remember his holy promise.
73. This was the promise he made to our father Abraham,
74. that we, being rescued from the hand of our enemies, may serve him without fear,
75. in holiness and righteousness before him for as long as we live.
76. "And you, my little son, will be called the prophet of the Most High, because you will prepare the way for the Lord.
77. You will tell His people how to find salvation through forgiveness of their sins.
78. Because of God's tender mercy, the morning light from heaven is about to break upon us,
79. to give light to those who sit in darkness and in the shadow of death, and to guide us to the path of peace."
  1. John grew up and became strong in spirit. And he lived in the wilderness until he began his public ministry to Israel.
Notes
  1. Luk 1:69  Net Bible Notes:
    1. The horn of salvation is a figure that refers to the power of Messiah and his ability to protect, as the horn refers to what an animal uses to attack and defend (Psa 75:4-5, Psa 75:10; Psa 148:14; 2Sa 22:3). Thus the meaning of the figure is “a powerful savior.” [←Back]
