Witnesses to Jesus

John 5:31-47

  1. “If I testify about myself, my testimony is not true.
  2. There is another who testifies about me, and I know the testimony he testifies about me is true.
  3. You sent messengers to John, and he told them the truth.
  4. But my testimony is not from man. The things I say, I did not receive from man, so that you might be saved.
  5. John was a burning and shining lamp, and for a time you were willing to enjoy his light.
  6. “But I have a greater testimony than John’s because of the works that the Father has given Me to accomplish. These very works I am doing testify about Me that the Father has sent Me.
  7. And the Father who sent me has himself testified concerning me. You have never heard his voice nor seen his form,
  8. nor does his word dwell in you, for you do not believe the one he sent.
  9. You study the scriptures thoroughly because you think in them you possess eternal life, and it is these same scriptures that testify about me.
  10. Yet you refuse to come to Me to receive this life.
  11. “I do not accept praise from people.
  12. But I know you, that you do not have the love of God within you.
  13. I have come in my Father’s name, and you do not accept me. If someone else comes in his own name, you will accept him.
  14. How can you believe, if you accept praise from one another and don’t seek the praise that comes from the only God?
  15. Do not think that I will accuse you to the Father. Your accuser is Moses, on whom you have set your hope.
  16. For if you believed Moses, you would believe Me, because he wrote about Me.
  17. But if you do not believe what Moses wrote, how will you believe my words?”
