The Prophecy of Anna

Luke 2:36-40

  1. Anna, a prophetess, was there at the Temple. She was the daughter of Phanuel from the tribe of Asher, and she was very old. Her husband died when they had been married only seven years.
  2. She had lived as a widow since then for eighty-four years. She never left the temple, worshiping with fasting and prayer night and day.
  3. Anna came up to Jesus’ family at that very moment. She gave thanks to God. And she spoke about the child to all who were were waiting for the redemption of Jerusalem.
  4. So when Joseph and Mary had performed everything according to the law of the Lord, they returned to Galilee, to their own town of Nazareth.
  5. And the child grew and became strong, filled with wisdom, and the favor of God was upon him.
