The Baptism of Jesus

Mark 1:9-11

  1. About that time Jesus came from the town of Nazareth in Galilee to the place where John was and John baptized Jesus in the Jordan River.
  2. Immediately, as Jesus was coming up out of the water, John saw heaven open and The Holy Spirit came down and rested on Jesus like a dove,
  3. A voice spoke to him from heaven. It said, “You are my Son, and I love you. I am very pleased with you.”

Matthew 3:13-17

  1. Then Jesus came from Galilee to John to be baptized by him in the Jordan River.
  2. But John tried to stop him, saying, “Why do you come to me to be baptized? I need to be baptized by you!”
  3. Jesus replied, “Let it be so now; it is proper for us to fulfill all righteousness.” Then John consented.
  4. After Jesus was baptized, just as he was coming up out of the water, the heavens opened and John saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and resting upon Jesus.
  5. And a voice from heaven said, “This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased.”
