Struggling with Sin
~ This post is not listed in chronological order ~
Romans 7:14-25
- So the trouble is not with the law, for it is spiritual. The trouble is with me, for I am merely human flesh – carnal and enslaved to sin.
- I don’t really understand myself, for I want to do what is right, but I don’t do it. Instead, I do what I hate.
- I agree that God’s standards, as written in the law are good, and they teach me what I am doing is wrong.
- But I am not really the one doing these things I hate, but sin that lives in me is doing them.
- For I know that nothing good lives in me, that is, in my flesh. For the desire to do what is good is with me, but I cannot do it.
- Instead of doing what I know is right, I do what I know is wrong.
- And when I do wrong, I am no longer in control, but sin within me – enslaves me.
- I have discovered this principle of life – that when I want to do what is right, evil is present with me.
- For I delight in the law of God and take pleasure in his standards.
- But there is another power within me that is at war with my mind. This power enslaves me to sin that is still within me.
- What a wretched man I am! Who will free me from this life that is dominated by sin and death?
- Thank God! The answer is in Jesus Christ our Lord. So then, I myself serve the law of God with my mind, but with my human body I serve the law of sin.
