Jesus Speaks with the Teachers
Luke 2:41-52
- Now Jesus’ parents went to Jerusalem every year for the feast of the Passover.
- When Jesus was twelve years old, they attended the festival as usual.
- After the celebration was over, they started home to Nazareth, but his parents were unaware that Jesus stayed behind in Jerusalem.
- Assuming He was in the traveling party, they traveled for a whole day thinking that Jesus was with them in the group, before they started looking for Him among their relatives and friends.
- When they did not find him, they returned to Jerusalem to look for him.
- After three days they found him in the temple courts, sitting among the teachers, listening to them and asking them questions.
- Everyone who heard him was amazed at his understanding and his answers.
- When his parents saw him, they were overwhelmed, and His mother said to Him, “Son, why have You treated us like this? Your father and I have been anxiously searching for You.”
- Jesus said to them, “Why were you looking for me? Didn’t you know that I must be in my Father’s house?”
- Yet his parents did not understand the meaning of what he said to them.
- Then he went back to Nazareth with them, and he obeyed them. But his mother kept all these things like a secret treasure in her heart.
- So Jesus grew both in height and in wisdom, and he was loved by God and by all who knew him.
