God’s Law Reveals Our Sin

Romans 7:7-13

7. Well then, am I suggesting that the law of God is sinful? Of course not! In fact, it was the law that showed me my sin. I would never have known that coveting is wrong if the law had not said, “You must not covet.”
8. But sin, seizing the opportunity through the commandment, produced in me all kinds of wrong desires. For apart from the law, sin is dead.
9. Once I was alive apart from the law; but when the commandment came, sin sprang to life and I died.
10. The commandment that was intended to bring life brought death!
11. For sin, seizing the opportunity through the commandment, deceived me and through it I died.
12. So then, the law is holy, and the commandment is holy, righteous, and good.
13. But how can that be? Did the law, which is good, cause my death? Of course not! Now, through the commandment we can see how terrible sin really is; for sin used what was good to bring about my condemnation to death. Through the law sin has been revealed as exceedingly sinful.
