Adam and Christ Contrasted
~ This post is not listed in chronological order ~
Romans 5:12-21
- When Adam sinned, sin entered the world. And as a result, death spread to everyone, because everyone sinned.
- Sin was in the world before the law was given. But sin is not judged when there is no law.
- Nevertheless, everyone experienced death from Adam to Moses, even over those who did not explicitly disobey God’s commandment as Adam did, who is a pattern of the one to come.
- But there is a great difference between Adam’s sin and God’s gracious gift. For the sin of this one man, Adam, brought death to many. But even greater is God’s wonderful grace and His gift of forgiveness to many through this other Man, Jesus Christ.
- For Adam’s sin led to condemnation, but God’s free gift leads to our justification, even though we are guilty of many sins.
- For if, by the trespass of the one man, death reigned through that one man, how much more will those who receive God’s abundant provision of grace and of the gift of righteousness, reign in life through the one man Jesus Christ!
- Consequently, just as one trespass resulted in condemnation for all people, so also one righteous act resulted in justification and life for all.
- One man disobeyed God, and many became sinners. In the same way, one man obeyed God, and many will be made righteous.
- The law was given and as a result sin increased. But where sin increased, God’s grace abounded even more.
- Just as sin resulted in death, so grace will result in righteousness unto eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
